Workouts for the week of Aug 31

here are the workouts for the week:

tuesday: 6:45 am, track workout, hhs track
wednesday: 6 pm, open water swim, sand hollow
thursday: 6:15 am, track workout with tom, hhs
thursday: 6:30 pm, road ride, over the edge sports

good luck to all those doing the peach days or the trails run this weekend. have fun and don't get injured.

butch cassidy registration is open. It will take place on saturday, november, 7 at 10 am. forms are at classic sports or on runnercard.com. it filled up last year, so don't delay. Click here for more info.

saturday, somewhere between 5 and 6 am, long run, 10-20 miles, either marathon course or hurricane walmart to wash rec center and back. let me know about interest in this one and preference on time and location. there are a few of us going for sure and i will let you know all the details when we decide.

Workouts for the Week of July 27

thanks to all who participated in the pioneer day 5K. i think it was a great success. we had over 60 racers and donated over 100 lbs of food to the food bank!! you guys rock! i will be posting the full race results and pictures on the blog www.hurricanerunners.blogspot.com soon.

thursday: ultra brick workout: 6 am. 1 mile swim, 40 mile bike, 8-12 mile run. either at quail or sand hollow. let me know if you want to participate and i will let you know which lake.
thursday: 6:30 pm, road ride, over the edge sports.
saturday: 17-10 mile run on marathon course. meet at 5 am at rezults fitness or vernon worthen park. this is with the souther utah tri club and wash rec center running club.

2nd Annual Pioneer Day 5k

Hurricane City Park: 200 N. Main.
Registration is only 2 cans of food. Forms can be picked up at Classic Sports.or register day of at 5:45. If you don't want to run but want to help (or know someone who wants to help) let me know because I need a few more volunteers to guide runners at intersections, time, help with results, etc. Hope to see some of you there. Then after the race, enjoy the parade and games in the park.

Here are the workouts for next week:

monday: long open water swim with southern utah tri club. 6 am. sand hollow lake. i may try to make it, but the tri clubbers are a lot of fun even if i don't.

tuesday: track workout with elizabeth, tony, and dennis. 6:30 am. hhs track.

wednesday:
  • track workout with tom. 6:15 am. hhs track.
  • open water swim (and bike and run if you want) with tri club. 6:30 pm. sand hollow.

friday: we are going to start doing our rides on friday. i will be out of town, but i think there is still interest. 6:15 am. la verkin chevron.

if i don't make the wed night open water swim, i will do one during the day one day. if there is interest, let me know.

i am going to be out of town for half the week and tom will have the kids, so the workouts will be a little different this week.

monday: ride: 6:15 am: over the edge sports. come for a nice hour long ride.
tuesday: track workout 8:45 am. I can't do it on thursday, so it'll be tuesday again. hope that is ok.
Wedneaday: track workout: 6:15 am with tom. Tom can't do it thursday.

thursday 5/28 - 6:15 am - track workout with tom at hhs
thursday 5/28 - 8:45 am - track workout with elizabeth at hhs. dennis from leeds, a former running coach, will also be there and is very willing to coach anyone who wants it. he has some great tips and advice, so come and meet and run with him.
saturday 5/30 - 9 am - st george tri club is having an open water swim and bike at sand hollow. i would like to go, if anyone else is interested and wants to let me know.

We are going to try to do some more workouts this week. Hopefully, some of you will join us. And let us know what works for you. We will try this set-up for a week and see how it goes. If other days work for you, let us know and we can see what we can do.

  • Tuesday 5/12 - 6:30 am - Bike ride. Meet at Over the Edge Sports (corner of 100 south and 100 west in hurricane).
    Quentin, if you don't want us to meet there, just let me know.
  • Wednesday 5/13 - 6:15 am - Track workout with Tom. HHS Track.

  • Thursday 5/14 - 9:15 am - Track workout with Elizabeth. HHS track.

Quentin at Over the Edge Sports was also going to start up a Thursday night road ride. When I get details, I will pass it on.

I would like to do an open water swim at the Sand Hollow. If there is interest in that, let me know.

If there is anyone who would like to lead Saturday morning runs, that would be awesome, It is too hard for Tom and I because of our kids and we just get the runs in when we can, but I think there is interest in a group run. We just need a coordinator. Let me know if you would be interested in doing that.

And lastly, if there are other workouts you guys are doing that you think others might be interested in, let us know.

SGRC Series

Blue Duck Racing presents:

2009 SGRC Series
June 6 Speedster 5 & 10k
Aug 15 Pine Valley 5k & 15 Miler
Sept 5 Trails River Run 5k, Half Marathon & 20 Miler

The St. George Running Center Series is a 3 race series with Sprint and Endurance categories. The races include Speedster 5 & 10K (June 6), Pine Valley 5k & 15 Miler (Aug 15), and The Trails River Run 5k, Half Marathon & 20 Miler (Sept 5). Runners must complete all three 5k races to be eligible for Sprint Series awards, or all three longer distance races (10k, 15 Miler, and 20 Miler) to be eligible for Endurance Series awards. There will be prizes at the end of the series for top runners, as well as individual race prizes. The series awards will be based on total time over all 3 races. Register for entire series for $45 or $70. Prices increase by $5 three weeks before, and the Thursday before first event date.

The Speedster 5 &10k will be held June 6 in St. George. It will start and finish at Tonaquint Park, and runs the bike path along the Santa Clara River. This is the first race in the SGRC Series. ($15 & $20) Prices increase by $5 three weeks before, and the Thursday before event date. www.SGRCSeries.net

Pine Valley 5k & 15 Miler will be held August 15 on the North side of the Pine Valley Mountains. This will be a very scenic race, and the temperature should be relatively moderate near the mountains. Our Series finale, The Trails River Run 5k, Half Marathon & 20 Miler will be held September 5 in Ivins, Utah. This is a fantastic course with lots of aid station support. ($15 & $25 & $30) Prices increase by $5 three weeks before, and the Thursday before event date. www.SGRCSeries.net

track workout

this week's track workout will take place on wednesday at 6 pm. come one, come all and bring friends. we have been having a good group of walkers, joggers and sprinters. we'll understand if the high school runners can't make it. i guess track practice is more important than our workouts, but we will miss you.

Hurricane half-marathon registration forms have been mailed. if you didn't get one, go to the city offices. sign-up early, they are limiting it to 500 this year.

Week of February 15

There will be a track workout this Thursday, Feb 19 at 6 pm at the hurricane high school track. All are welcome. You can walk, jog, or sprint. Tom and I will lead a workout of 800s.

Great job to all those who participated in the Dam 2 Dam. It was a great race, as always. If anyone wants to share a race report, please do and I will post them on the blog.

Upcoming races include, the Lake to Lake Relay on March 7 and the Spectrum 10K on March 14. Please share if you know of any other races.

Thursday Feb 12, 6 pm: Track workout at HHS track. We had a great group last week: runners, walkers and sprinters. All are welcome.

Speed Workout

if anyone is interested, there will be a track workout this wednesday, feb 4 at 6 pm at the Hurricane high school track. last week we had a good group and runners from all over the spectrum. Bring your own water and dress according to the weather.

Is anyone interested in running any other time? it might be nice to get saturday runs going again. is there any interest?
